How do they stand up against a MIA Jazz?
Howdy, I was hoping to consult this sub on how a bassist would go about being heard in low-tuned metal bands? I'm referring to tunings as low as drop b to a. I'm not asking to be front of the mix, but out front enough not to be 6 feet under in the mix. All replies are appreciated! Thank you
Looking for a new bridge humbucker, geared mostly towards high gain metal solos for shredding. So far I love the Dimarzio Evolution DP 159 for its pig squealing pinch harmonics (worried a bit about it sounding thin). The SD Blackout AHB-3 looks interesting, has a nice searing edge to it but I'm having a difficult time justifying it as I already have an EMG-81 and I'm afraid it will only be a slight change in tone and I don't care much for actives. I already have a SD SH-4 JB and it's great, very meaty.
So lately I have been listening to alot of Poliphia and wish to find other bands with bass playing similar to this, especially similar to the song Crush. I've been trying to break the mold of the bassist with how my band sees the bassist and I understand theory very well, yet I don't really have anything to BASS (pun intended) the style I'm going for off of besides this band.
I'm working with a budget of about $350-$400 max. Just looking for a decent head and a good 2×10 (preferably both used). I need a simple but versatile setup that's loud enough to play in a band setting. Open to just about any recommendation. Thank you.
Sorry for the long post here. This topic may or may not have been discussed before. But I feel that it's relevant because a lot of people here have payed 1-3,000$ for a new guitar (Myself Included). And I would like to work around that if possible. So, I am interested in getting a Les Paul. I have owned an epiphone Les Paul before and wasn't super in love with it. I recently found out about the 70's era Lawsuit clones. What are your thoughts on these? There are many, like Bacchus, Penco, Ibanez, and many more. Some of these are so good that they are just as much as a Gibson. Do you own one? What's your experience with these? Then there are some smaller guitar shops that make their own, such as Agile. Some people swear by these. You can get one for about 400$. How is the quality compared to a Gibson? I have gone to GC and Sam Ash and played some Les Pauls. These range in price from 900-3500$, which in my opinion is just ridiculous. A lot of these guitars can be had used on EBAY several years later for almost half the price which leads me to believe that buying one new is a bad idea. Are there years that are better than others? I read that the 2015 LP’s aren’t all that great. And then, there are quite a few models to choose from: Custom, Studio, Standard, and more. I’m not looking for lots of options, I just want nice playability and high-quality tone. I recently played a 2016 LP deluxe and I really liked the wide-neck. Please share your LP experiences with me. Is it worth it to buy a new one? Are there some bad years, or models to look out for on EBAY? Are the Agile LP’s the best bang for the buck? Your feedback is greatly appreciated!
